Overview

The following document describes the different Vendor / Carrier Types that can be applied to a Vendor/ Carrier record.

It is a required field that can be used to differentiate between a Carrier, Owner Operator, Freight Fowarder, Vendor, and multiple variations of the aformentioned.

Procedure

Carrier

A Common Carrier is a Freight transportation company which serves the general public. It may be used for regular route service (over designated highways on a regular basis) or irregular route (between various points on an unscheduled basis).

Owner / Operator

In the United States and Canada, an owner-operator is a self-employed commercial truck driver or a small business that operates trucks for transporting goods over highways for its customers

Customs Brokers

Customs brokers are private individuals, partnerships, associations or corporations licensed, regulated and empowered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to assist importers and exporters in meeting Federal requirements governing imports and exports

Freight Broker

A Freight Broker is an individual or a company that connects together a shipper that needs to transport goods with a carrier that wants to provide the service for pick up and delivery of the freight.

Freight Forwarder

A freight forwarder is a firm specializing in arranging storage and shipping of merchandise on behalf of its shippers.

Vendor

A vendor is a company which supplies parts or services to another company.
