Overview

The Tailwind Fax module allows for faxing from within CMS, using the Tailwind Agent and Microsoft Fax Services.

Materials

  • Tailwind is installed on the server machine.
  • Fax modem is installed on the server machine.
  • Fax machine is plugged in the server machine and an outside line.

Procedure

When using any print option in the program, you will be treated to the print screen. Change the destination to "Fax (Tailwind Agent)"

Installation Instructions

Note: The Tailwind Fax server will only work on Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows Vista Business or Ultimate.

This installation must take place on the server

  1. Install Microsoft XP Fax Services
    1. Open "Control Panel→Add/Remove Programs".
    2. Click "Add/Remove Windows Components".
    3. Check "Fax Services" and click "Next".
    4. Click "Finish".
  2. Configure Microsoft XP Fax Services (Part 1)
    1. Open "Control Panel→Phone and Modem Options"
    2. Make sure that at least one location is set up in the dialing rules,:

    3. Configure the area code and area code rules as required.
  3. Configure Microsoft XP Fax Services (Part 2)
    1. Open "Start→Programs→Accessories→Communications→Fax→Fax Console"
    2. Click "Tools→Configure Fax".
    3. Follow the steps. Make sure you set the TSID, as this is what will appear on the recipient's fax machine when sending a fax.
  4. Install Adobe Reader 6.0
    1. Download and install Adobe Reader 6.0 (Note: We have had difficulties with later versions of Adobe Reader, so make sure you download 6.0.)
    2. After installing, run Adobe Reader manually and do the following:
      1. Accept the license agreement.
      2. Go into "File→Preferences", then "Updates" and disable automatic updates.
  5. Check the printto verb for TIF files
    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Click "Tools→Folder Options".
    3. Click "File Types".
    4. Find "TIF" in the list.
    5. Click the "Advanced" button.
    6. Make sure that there is a "Printto" option under "Actions".
    7. If not, add it with the "Associated Application" set as follows:
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_PrintTo /pt "%1" "%2" "%3" "%4"

Troubleshooting

  • Please ensure the fax service is running. This can be checked through Windows Services tool.
  • We have had issue with faxing working intermittently with Norton Products. If you are experiencing problems, please try removing any Norton product and try again.
