Qualcomm Software Configuration
CMS supports three Qualcomm integration options:
- QTRACS EAL File Exchange
- RI/Web EAL File Exchange
- Web Services (XML/SOAP)
Web Services Configuration
Login Credentials
The first step in setting up Qualcomm Web Services integration is to get access to the Qualcomm or Shaw Tracking web portal. You will need to get a User Name and Password from Qualcomm or Shaw Tracking. Once you have opened an account, you can navigate to the Qualcomm Web Portal or the Shaw Tracking Web Portal to log on with your new Company ID, User ID, and Password:
Subscriber
The next task is to create a subscriber. You will need a subscriber to be able to send and receive messages via this service. Click the "Administration" link at the top right of the Services Portal page, then click the "Integration" item in the menu bar. Finally, click on "Transaction Subscribers" to navigate to the Subscribers page. Follow the instructions to create a subscriber. When your subscriber has been created, Qualcomm will automatically assign a Reference number to your new subscriber. You will need your credential information and Subscriber Reference number when you create a new Communication Source for this service (Refer to the CMS Configuration section below).
Macros
You must subscribe to any Macros you create before they can be used. Follow these steps to subscribe to one or Macros:
- Log In to your Qualcomm QTracs Web Services account (as described above)
- Click the "Administration" link at the top right of the "Services Portal" page
- Click the "Integration" item in the menu bar
- Click on "Transaction Subscribers" to navigate to the Subscribers page
- Click on the link to your subscriber in the "Name" column
- Click the "Edit Subscriber..." button
- Click the checkbox next to each Macro you wish to subscribe to (make sure the checkmark is displayed)
- Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page. You will be returned to the "Subscribers" page when your selections have been saved
- Click the "Log Out" link at the top right of the page
QTRACS Configuration
If you are using QTRACS to interface with CMS, follow these steps from within QTRACS:
Click on Tools→Company Options→EAL tab→Link Options tab, and turn on the following:
- "Enable Ascii Import"
- "Enable Ascii Export"
- "Export all vehicle position reports"
- "Export Macro field data separately for macro messages"
- "Export Status for previously imported forward messages"
NOTE: Setting these options won't affect any current operations in the Qualcomm system. They just enable the exporting and importing of messages by CMS.
RI/WEB Configuration
If you are using RI/Web to interface with CMS, follow these steps from within RI/Web:
- Go to https://3pad.qualcommapps.com/qtracs/home.asp and log in using username and password for customer’s QTRACS account.
- Go to Admin section (top right corner) and click on “Download RI/Web” to download the client application.
- Install the client application on the server machine where Tailwind Agent is run.
- During the installation, the following information is needed:
- After the installation is complete, open EAL integration options and set it up as follows:
CMS Configuration
Setting up the Communication Source
Web Services
- From the main CMS interface, click "View→System Configuration".
- Click on "Tailwind Agent→GPS Communications".
- Click "New".
- Set up the configuration as follows, with the information obtained when you set up your Qualcomm QTracs web services account:
Associating Equipment
Every vehicle that has a Qualcomm satellite unit in it will have a unique ID number, which Qualcomm calls the "MCT Number". In order for CMS to know how to send a message to a truck, you have to tell it which trucks have which MCT Numbers. You can do this by opening up the Equipment record for a certain truck, then clicking on the "Specifications" tab. Down at the bottom left is a box labeled "Communication". The "Comm Source" is the system for sending and receiving messages (in this case, Qualcomm), and the "Comm ID" is the identification number for that particular system (in this case, Qualcomm's MCT Number for that truck).
Once each truck has its MCT Number set, you will be able to send and receive messages from it.
Creating Macros
Qualcomm Web Services
- From the main CMS interface, click "View→System Configuration".
- Click on "Tailwind Agent→GPS Communications" to open the "GPS Communications" window:

- Double-Click on Cancom (Web) in the list to open the "Communication Source" window:
- Select the "Forward Macro" tab, then click the "New" button and the "Communication Macro" window opens. Fill in information about the macro then click on the list to add macro fields. Give each field a caption and a data type. If a Primary Object type was selected, you will be able to select one of the Primary Object's fields as a related field for this macro. The completed form will resemble the example below:

Click the "Save & Close" button to save the new macro. You will be prompted to upload the macro to the website. Answer "Yes" to upload it now or "No" if you would like to upload it manually later. If you choose to upload the macro now, the program will attempt to send the macro to the website. QualComm will check the macro and report any problems if the macro could not be uploaded.
You will be returned to the "Communication Source" page where you can create a new macro or edit an existing one, by double-clicking it's row in the list. Notice the "Manual Upload" button. Click this to initiate an upload of any checked macros in the list.
